Uncle Nearest’s backstory is that Nathan “Nearest” Green was a master distiller and mentor to Jack Daniel’s. Uncle Nearest is the celebration, continuation, and expansion of what Nathan Green did over 100 years ago, carried on by Victoria Eady Butler, one of his descendants, and Fawn Weaver, a business person and investor .
Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Whiskey is produced in Tennessee using a combination of corn and rye, and is put through the Lincoln County Process before being aged in new American oak barrels. Currently it's produced by two local distilleries as the brand's own whiskey ages. The name honours Nathan Green, who was known as Uncle Nearest to friends and family, and was the first African-American master distiller on record in the USA.
