Octomore is the world’s most routinely heavily-peated single malt whisky, produced by Bruichladdich distillery on the Isle of Islay. Statistically speaking, Octomore is all about peating levels. The first batch, distilled in 2002, was peated to 80.5ppm, and subsequent batches have reached as high as 208ppm The PPM stands for parts per million, in this case: phenolic parts. It’s not the ppm in the spirit that’s measured, it’s the ppm in the barley, very much in the beginning of the journey of becoming a whisky.
Most official releases follow a specific numbering scheme, where the decimal point provides additional information.

.4 : 100 % Scottish barley, matured in American oak, often virgin American oak
10 YO : 100 % Scottish barley, matured typically in a mix of American and European oak. Has now replaced the .4
