The vineyard that’s used for Follow The Line was for sale three years ago. The farm wasn’t expensive, but it was 450 hectares and most of it was for sheep farming. ‘The only sheep I want to look at is one on my plate,’ quips Duncan. He’s a huge fan of Grenache. ‘In the Piekeneerskloof we haven’t scratched the surface yet,’ he says. ‘Grenache is amazing.’ With others he’s persuaded a farmer in the Piekeneerskloof to plant 15 hectares of it, using the new planting material. The older stuff has big leaves and gives wines with light colour.
There's a ton of floral character on the nose of this bright and vibrant red, made predominantly from Cinsault but with 7% Syrah as well. Pronounced scents of rose and gardenia are offered alongside herbal accents of fresh thyme, lavender and rooibos. The palate is light yet silky in feel, with a lively dance and harmony between the barely ripe red fruit elements of snappy cranberry and cherry and the earthy, herbal elements that carry though to the finish.
