The Mortlach distillery lies in Speyside’s spiritual heartland, Dufftown, and holds the honour of being the first legal distillery to be built there. Mortlach distillery is still owned by Diageo, and its large capacity (2.9 million litres/year) enables it to be a major malt in the production of the Johnnie Walker blend, reflecting the spirit's huge popularity among blenders.
Mortlach produce such character-full whiskies and this one is no exception. With such intense flavours you might be mistaken into thinking this was a peated Islay whisky, but it’s not. This is the second batch of Mortlach released by the Private Barrel Co and it turns out it’s from a cask that sat right alongside the first batch of Mortlach they released last year.
