Kanonkop Kadette Cape Blend 2008 (magnum in box)

This tasty Cape blend from South Africa’s premier Pinotage producer combines the estate’s signature grape with the Bordeaux varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Full-bodied and supple, it displays ripe, juicy flavors of dark berry, coffee, banana, and plum interlaced with pleasant herbal and spice notes. Its distinctive smoky, tarry character makes it a perfect match for grilled meats, barbecued ribs, chili and hearty pasta dishes.

This dark ruby colored red blend from South Africa is a heck of a wine for the money. It opens with a mild cherry and light oak bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, well balanced, and shows no edges at all. The flavor profile is a gentle plum with light oak notes in the background. There are touches of black pepper and black currant mixed in as well. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are nicely prolonged.
