Situated in the Robertson Wine Valley, De Wetshof Estate has become synonymous with Chardonnay in South Africa. Under the guidance of renowned winemaker Danie de Wet, the estate has spent decades refining its understanding of how Chardonnay responds to Robertson’s distinctive limestone-rich soils.

These soils - rocky, gravelly and rich in calcium with clay pockets for water retention - play a defining role in the style of the wine, allowing vines to develop fruit with natural citrus purity and structure.

The Finesse Chardonnay is one of De Wetshof’s most established wines, first released in 1989 as a more restrained expression of the varietal. Grapes are harvested in the cool morning hours and fermented in a combination of French oak barrels, using both new and older oak to build texture without overpowering the fruit. The result is a Chardonnay that leans towards balance and elegance - showing the clarity of Robertson fruit alongside subtle oak complexity.
