Spijker is named after the “stoetbul” (stud bull) of the late iconic South African wine celebrity Francis “Duimpie” Bayly. Duimpie, whose favorite hobby was cattle breeding. His favourite grape variety was Malbec, so it seemed natural to honour his legacy by using it as the driving force behind Spijker. The grapes are sourced from different regions in the Cape Winelands, resulting in a wine of tremendous complexity.
On the nose, the Spijker Malbec boasts aromas of blackberries, mulberries, plums, cedar, and Fynbos. The palate is smooth, with fine tannins, luscious red fruits and a gentle acidity. This wine does not require maturation; it is ready to drink and as smooth as silk.
