This bourbon cask whisky is crafted from the finest South African grain and malt whiskies. Distilled in both copper pot and column stills, the whisky is matured in a combination of older and younger ex-Bourbon American oak casks for a minimum of three years. The warm South African climate accelerates maturation, resulting in an exceptionally smooth whisky.
This whisky was named the World’s Best Blended Whisky at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards (WWA) in London. This prestigious recognition highlights the exceptional quality and innovation present in South African whisky production. Crafted at the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington, the Three Ships Bourbon Cask impressed judges with its distinctive flavour profile. Tasting notes included ‘varnished oak, vanilla ice cream, milk chocolate, and smoked pineapple’ on the nose, followed by ‘cornflake, caramel sauce, and ripe fruits’ on the palate, culminating in a finish of ‘spicy oak, brown sugar, and vanilla.’
