Springbank Local Barley 16 year old

Springbank 16 Years Old Local Barley was distilled in September 1999 and bottled in January 2016 at 54.3%. The whisky matured for 16 years in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks. It is the first in a series of five Local Barley releases from the distillery. The barley used was grown at Low Machrimore Farm, just a few miles away from the Springbank distillery. It was then malted at the distillery itself, and the whisky was bottled on-site, making this 100% a Campbeltown single malt. The Springbank distillery was founded in 1828 by the Mitchell family, who had been living in the region since the 17th century. It is one of the three remaining distilleries in Campbeltown, which was once one of the most prolific whisky distilling areas of Scotland. Springbank is the oldest family-owned distillery in Scotland: almost two centuries later, it is still in the hands of the Mitchell family. 9000 bottles of Springbank 16 Years Old Local Barley were released.
