With an eye for excellence and a passion for South Africa, Waterford Estate, in the Blaauwklippen valley on the slopes of the Helderberg, strives to craft exceptional wine vintage after vintage. Here, in the 'golden triangle' of Stellenbosch, renowned for its favourable terroir for producing world class, structured reds – notably Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, Waterford Estate has grown into a luxury brand for fine wine.
Winemaker Kevin Arnold did a stint at Delheim and Rust en Vrede, efforts that earned him prominent placements in The Wine Spectator three years in a row. This 100% cabernet sauvignon is another winner. Vinified with care, it spends 17 months in 55% French and 45% American oak and emerges with a bouquet of dark plum and currant, highlighted by notes of violets and a hint of pencil lead. These elements follow on the palate with very good balance and fine tannins leading to a long finish with a hint of mint and a light earthy note.
