Vergelegen's The Mistake Merlot is certainly not, as the name might suggest, a mistake, but rather a misunderstanding between Vergelegen's winemaker André van Rensburg and the French oenologist Michel Rolland, who advises over 100 important wineries in over 13 countries worldwide. The 3000 bottles imagined by Michel accidentally became 3000 wine crates. The "left-overs" then skilfully created this masterful drop!
100% merlot sourced exclusively from the Rondekop Hill the 2019 is, according to new Cellarmaster Luke O`Cuinneagain, a classic expression of merlot on the property. Deep and dense in colour with savoury tannins showing huge promise, with an underlying power that suggests a promising future ahead. Drink from 2024 to 2033.
