Bouchard Finlayson is both a family affair, and a place of collaboration. A labour of love that sees the marriage of Old World winemaking heritage with New World innovation.
The estate was established in South Africa’s Hemel-en-Aarde valley in 1989, a groundbreaking partnership between acclaimed Burgundian winemaker.
Alongside his pioneering work with Pinot Noir, Peter Finlayson was instrumental in importing Sangiovese and Nebbiolo into South Africa. This memorable blend combines Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Nebbiolo, Mourvédre and Barbera into a wine that emerges far greater than the sum of its parts. The name is a symbolic expression of the connection between the Old and New Worlds of viticulture, with the African elephant famously carrying the Carthaginian general Hannibal on his invasion of Italy.
