Beeslaar comes from a comparatively large, four-hectare parcel on shale soils and makes an interesting contrast with Kanonkop’s Black Label Pinotage. Pure, floral, ethereal and hauntingly perfumed, it has stylish, scented 50% new wood, fine-grained tannins, plum, strawberry and goji berry flavours and a lingering finish.
The 2022 Pinotage, which comes from granite soils and aged for 22 months in 50% new oak, has a delightful bouquet of dark cherry, blueberry and just a hint of violet and peony, quite delineated and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with very pliant tannins. It is refreshingly harmonious, certainly one of the more elegant Pinotages in this vintage. It’s a joy to drink.
Hand-picked grapes from 29-year-old bush vines. This wine reveals a diverse range of flavours, from indulgent chocolate and wild berries to exotic spices, all harmoniously complemented by a lingering and subtle influence of oak on the finish.
