Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 03.1 / 3_152 is a limited-edition release of the world’s most heavily peated whisky: Bruichladdich’s Octomore. The cult favourite single malt was introduced in 2008, and continues to raise the bar for heavily peated whiskies everywhere. The whisky has been made using barley malted to an extraordinary 152ppm. It matured for 5 years in ex-bourbon American oak casks, and was bottled in August 2010 at 59%. The resulting spirit is not for the faint-hearted! Powerful aromas of peat smoke and fire, iodine, wet seaweed, tarry pitch and soaking sailcloth ambush the senses. More subtle notes of hawthorn and heather, bog myrtle and mint, pine resin and mountain thyme emerge and slowly bring a coolness to the palate. Mellow oak, chicory, bitter chocolate and soft green fruits provide balance and a subtle smoothness.
