Inspired by the travels of the Johnnie Walker agents in the 19th century, the Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Collection builds on the brand’s history and is relevant for today’s global citizens seeking new experiences. The packaging creates a window into each trade-route journey by using a device to show a pattern and palette that mirrors the liquid within. A new Walking Man globe symbol pays homage to the Johnnie Walker’s tenet of “Keep Walking” while visually unifying the series. The Spice Road is the first of the three limited editions in Johnnie Walker’s Explorer’s Club Collection and aims at celebrating the trade routes of old. The other two are the Gold Route and the Royal Route. During the 1800s and early 1900s, the Walker family, and their agents travelled the world in search of adventure. They took their whisky to Asia, the Americas and the Caribbean. Johnnie Walker was enjoyed on the great railways, luxury ocean liners and early transatlantic flights.
The Adventurer
It is likely that The Adventurer was the first of a new series within The Explorer's Club Collection. However a law suite was launched by the existing real life Explorer's Club that included such legendary names as Buzz Aldrin and Sir Ernest Shackleton. The Club funds scientific Research and Education and did not want their name used for commercial purposes without their permission. A judge ruled in favour of the Club in August 2014 which forged Diageo to rethink their strategy with regards to the Explorer's Club Collection. As a result, the Adventurer has become almost a rarity and a collectors item despite its humble ambitions.
