Bartinney Skyfall Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Bartinney is set on the dramatic slopes of Botmaskop alongside the Helshoogte Pass overlooking the picturesque Banhoek Valley in Stellenbosch. Established in 1912 Bartinney has been in the Jordaan family since 1953. Now Rose and Michael Jordaan tend to the 28 hectare farm with a vision to create excellent wines and reawaken the charm of the historic land.

The first impression of our Skyfall Cabernet Sauvignon on the nose is of ripe plum with cinnamon and nutmeg spice. The palate is reminiscent of dark chocolate shavings, sprinkled over sweet berry compote. Boldly structured tannins, supported by the flavour of vanilla pod and cedar, are a signature of the vintage. At this stage, it’s at odds with the aromatic fruit expression, which lingers on. It is unusually masculine in structure, and needs time to develop. Although the growing season was warm and dry, the overall impression of the wine is that of a cool origin.
